Bringing the Masters Word to the lost souls in the bush
My name is Terry L. Pittman and I have been helping to bring the Master's Word to the Amerindians in the jungles of Guyana and Suriname, South America since 1999. I have been working with a small core team of two other American missionaries with the assistance of several American and Guyanese team members. Since 1999 this team has established 6 congregations of the Lord's church in the bush, 3 along the coast and we are currently working with another 3 established congregations. We also have established a 2 year preacher training school, we believe that it is important to train and deploy local men to carry out the Lord's work.
When we go into a village where the true Word has not been before we don't just preach, teach and baptize, we also start making plans for the construction of a church building for them. We also begin helping them to either send one of their own men to our school or arrange for one of our preacher graduates to work with them.
We see in Matt. 9: 35 - 39, Jesus going about the villages teaching and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, healing every sickness and disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes He was moved with compassion on them, because they were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, the harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.
That is how we see the Amerindians, they have their bush medicine to treat their physical illness, but they do not have the true Word of God to heal their spiritual illness.
They are like those in Christ's time, sheep without a shepherd. That is why we have chosen to take His word to the lost souls in the bush.
We are currently in the process of raising funds for the construction of a church building in the village of GoodHope, as well as operating funds for the work and support for students and preachers. If you would be interested in contributing to this work you can send your contribution to Lake Forest Church of Christ , Attn: BushMastermissions, 950 W. Edgewood Ave., Jacksonville, Fl. 32208. If you have any questions or would like more information you can reach me at [email protected]. I am working under the oversight of the Elders of Lake Forest Church of Christ.
